Martini Racing Backdraft Cobra
In the annals of historic motorsport, there are perhaps no more iconic racing liveries that that of Martini & Rossi, more commonly seen as Martini Racing. The distinctive mix of dark blue, light blue and red stripes over a white, red or silver backdrop that we recognize today made its debut in the late 1960s on several Porsche 910 and 907 race cars. Porsches wore the Martini flag through many successful seasons in the 1970s as well, creating a permanent connection between the Martini name and racing Porsches. But interestingly, it was the Lancia Delta Intagrale that won the most titles for Martini in the sport of Rally racing.
Ever since, the nostalgic livery has been applied to numerous other vehicles, including contemporary German road cars, Porsche replicas and even a few American muscle cars. So it was only a matter of time before we’d see the logo on a Cobra replica, and this example on eBay comes from Backdraft Racing.
Known for neo-retro styling and the use of BMW suspension components, Backdraft has carved a niche for itself in the turnkey-minus Cobra market. This RT4 model is representative of the company’s offerings, with contemporary 18-inch wheels and a bright blend of paintwork and interior treatments. 510 horsepower comes by way of a Ford 427 ci V8, likely a stroked Windsor, and a five-speed TREMEC TKO-600 handles gearshifts. Out back, a Ford 3.55:1 differential sends power to both wheels. Stack injection and ceramic-coated headers ensure that the Cobra breathes efficiently, exhaling through a pair of blacked-out sidepipes.
The exterior of the RT4 displays plenty of Backdraft’s signature flavor, with bright tire lettering, blacked-out trim work and LED headlights. The interior features quilted leather, along with a carbon-fiber dash and custom Backdraft gauges. A Sabelt steering wheel and safety belts provide competition flavor, and the interior looks like a comfortable place to cover some miles. Big and tall drivers will also appreciate the dropped floors, providing extra inches in the foot box.
If a neo Cobra with some retro flair is right up your alley, check this RT4 here on eBay.
