Okay, so Guardman Blue and Wimbledon White never did it for ya? Well what about the subtle, yet aggressive, tones of black and silver that coat this stunning rendition of Peter Brock’s Shelby Daytona Coupe. And I do mean Brock and Shelby Shelby, as this CSX9000-series Daytona Coupe is a bona fide Shelby product, executed in Peter Brock’s revised and finalized version of the Daytona. In light of the presence of COVID-19 in the U.S., this Shelby is being offered as an online-only sale for RM Sotheby’s Palm Beach, Florida auction. How will that affect the hammer price? This weekend will tell.
Viral outbreaks notwithstanding, we’re looking at a top-tier Shelby, and its value is not likely to be affected a whole lot by the current COVID situation. But just in case, it might not hurt to have those bidder’s credentials in order. According to RM’s estimate, the Coupe will sell at around $130,000 to $160,000.
The Coupe is powered by a 427 ci Roush engine topped by a stack-style fuel injection system, but no further specs are provided. Roush has a whole line of 427 ci V8s based on Windsor blocks, and from the 9.5-inch deck height provided on their site we can infer that the engine is likely based on a 351 ci Windsor block design. Outputs on those engines range from 480 to 560 hp, and we’d bet this is either the top of the line 427 R or 427 IR option.
Like other Shelby Coupes, this car is pretty loaded with modern upgrades, including power windows and A/C. There is also a cover in the dash that looks like it may be concealing a stereo head unit as well. With all this in mind, it’s surprising to see just 740 miles covered in the seven years since the Shelby was born.
This Coupe, and a more affordable 427 Cobra replica, are just a couple of the vehicles being offered in RM Sotheby’s online-only Palm Beach 2020 auction, held March 20-27.
