24 cars from Shelby's personal collection to sell at auction
Bonhams announced Monday that they have been chosen by Carroll Shelby’s estate to bring over two dozen vehicles from the chicken farmer’s personal collection to auction. The lineup is a mixed group consisting of collaborations with Ford and Chrysler and a few proprietary Shelby products. All 24 vehicles will be sold at no reserve at Bonhams Greenwich Concours d’Elegance sale in Connecticut on Sunday, June 3.
You’ll find a few standouts among the diverse lots, including a 1969 Shelby GT 500 previously owned by the actor Jackie Cooper Jr. and a 1935 Chrysler sedan once owned by Steve McQueen. Predictably, Shelby would have a few of his own projects in the garage, and those offered by Bonhams include the first 1999 Shelby Series 1 built, a 2011 Shelby Cobra CSX 8027 and several of his compact car collaborations with Dodge. Also offered in the sale is a Lincoln Continental, DeThomaso Pantera and Pantera GT5, and a pair of contemporary Shelby Mustangs.
