RUF Automobile is a name that’s synonymous with high-performance Porsche tuning, but you might not know that RUF is actually considered a manufacturer and builds its own proprietary vehicles. Its newest project, the 2017 RUF CTR, is a carbon-fiber bodied 911 that’s all RUF from the ground up.
The design of the 2017 CTR harkens back to the original RUF CTR 911, nicknamed the Yellow Bird for its bright paintwork during a 1987 “World’s Fastest Cars” contest. The turbocharged CTR produced a mind-numbing 469 hp and outperformed most cars of its day. To celebrate the Yellow Bird’s 30th anniversary, RUF unveiled the new carbon CTR at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Instead of starting with a Porsche chassis, the new CTR is based on a RUF-developed chassis with an integrated steel roll cage and front and rear crash structures. Full carbon-fiber bodywork and monocoque are built in-house at RUF and not a single Porsche part is used. The finished CTR will have a dry weight of just 2,640 pounds. Powering the CTR is a twin-turbo, 3.6-liter flat-six engine and six-speed manual transmission, both built by RUF. The dry sump, liquid cooled engine makes a staggering 700+ horsepower and 649 lb-ft of torque, good for a 3 second 0-60 time and a top speed of 225 mph. The CTR also employs a pushrod style suspension with transverse rear shocks and longitudinal front shocks.
Unfortunately RUF only plans to build 30 CTRs, all of which are spoken for, and each will carry a $793,000 price tag.
