Drivers’ Choice 2020: Brake Category Winners
Last year we kicked off our second annual RCN Drivers’ Choice Awards program to recognize the top products and services in the world of replicas, unique classics and homebuilt cars. We posted 20 categories ranging from tools, tires and brakes, all the way up to complete turnkey vehicles and builder packages, and you voted for your favorites. Unfortunately we were not able to hand out our Drivers’ Choice Awards in person at the SEMA Show with its 2020 cancellation, but we look forward to recognizing our winners over the coming weeks here at rcnmag.com.
We all love mashing the skinny pedal, no doubt about it. Hearing cylinders combusting and valves opening in rhythm excites even the most casual car fan, and the reward is the sweet sensation of speed. But of course all the speed in the world doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t bring it to a stop, and the braking system in your car should be one of the main concerns when you start planning your build. As such, five companies were nominated in the Brake Category of our 2020 Drivers’ Choice Awards, ranging from contemporary aftermarket manufacturers to vintage component suppliers. Please join us in congratulating Wilwood Engineering for taking home the gold medal in the Brakes category for 2020.
Wilwood Engineering was founded by Bill Wood in 1977. Wood went to school for engineering on the G.I. Bill and started his career at Airheart Brakes before going out on his own. Forty-four years later, the company is headquartered in Camarillo, California, and employs approximately 320 people. Aiming to supply the best braking systems possible for racers and hobbyists alike, Wilwood supplies everything from upgraded calipers and rotors, to full bolt-on kits for classics, muscle cars and custom builds. Beyond automobiles, Wilwood also supplies components and systems for powersports applications, heavy equipment, the U.S. military, agriculture and other industrial applications.
Congratulations to Wilwood Engineering, along with Cobra Valley and Baer Brakes, who finished second and third in the Brakes category respectively.
Thanks to all who voted, along with all the companies nominated in this category!
