Amon Cup GT40 Series announced for 2021
The vintage auto racing organization Motor Racing Legends recently announced a one-make racing series for the Ford GT40, set to begin in 2021. The series was named the Amon Cup in honor of Chris Amon, who together with Bruce McLaren won the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans in the Mk II GT40 chassis No. P/1046.
The Amon Cup will consist of just two events, both held in the U.K. The first takes place at the Donington Historic Festival in May, and the second at the Silverstone Grand Prix in late October. Two 80-minute sessions are open to Ford GTs of pre-’66 specification, with two drivers permitted. Motor Racing Legends has indicated that the Amon family will present awards in person for each round of the series.
Prospective competitors are asked to register their interest with Motor Racing Legends at enquiries@motorracinglegends.com.
