Smyth Jeep Grand Cherokee ute conversion kit

Smyth Performance of Tiverton, Rhode Island, has a new ute kit on the market to add to their lineup of Jetta, Beetle, Subaru Impreza, Audi A4 and Dodge Charger ute conversions. The latest kit is designed around the Jeep WJ platform (1998-2004) Grand Cherokee SUV, and transforms the run-of-the-mill vehicle into a unique mini pickup truck, or ute. The kit includes fiberglass body panels and various 1/8-inch structural aluminum components, which are used to add strength to the Jeep’s UniFrame chassis after the back half of the top has been removed. Also included is a Chevrolet Colorado rear windshield, optional small corner glass pieces, a third brake light, a 54-inch wide functional tailgate and any other panels or fasteners you’ll need. Like Smyth’s other kits, the bed can actually be used, and measures 5.5 feet long by 5 feet wide on this model. See the Smyth Performance website for a further breakdown on the structural attributes of these ute conversions.
Smyth notes that the Jeep WJ platform was chosen because it is the last of the live-axle Grand Cherokees, and could be had with the reliable 4.0-liter inline six and 4.7-liter V8 engines. Additionally, these Jeeps can be found anywhere for affordable prices.
